[Hallicrafters] HT-44 neutralization problems

Hi Folks,
I'm new to the group, and am very happy to find one that
is familiar with these radios!

I've been woking on restoring an SX-117 and HT-44 to use as
a vintage station. After a lot of grief, the SX-117 is done, but
I've still got a couple of issues left to go with the HT-44. One
is that I've been unable to properly neutralize the finals. I am not
seeing a dip in plate current that corresponds to max power out.
In fact I'm not seeing any dip in plate current at all. Very strange.

Some of the things I've tried;
* use a grid dip meter to verify resonance on all bands (OK) of
  output tank circuit
* tried another set of finals and driver
* replaced all bypass and coupling caps in the finals cage
* re-capped power supply
* verified that the neut cap is OK, and properly connected

Not sure what to try next. If anyone has a working HT-44 out
there, and are willing to pop the lid, I'd like to know how much
of the threaded rod is sticking out of the nose of your neut
cap. Mine is about 1/4", and the finals seem to be very stable
with this setting (not so with others).

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

                       Steve W6SSP
