[Hallicrafters] How to Wrinkle

Hi folks,

I have experienced the same trouble to obtain wrinkle paint here in
France for the same reasons of impossible import due to the
fire/explosion hazard argued by the various parcel services available.

I have thus investigated deeply this topic, here is what I've discovered:

Professional painters and paint makers call "wrinkl(ed) paint" :
Textured paint. Any car or industrial paint supplier has all the
components available to produce / make textured paint in any color...
Youve just to explain the kind of texture you want > they can give
"grain" texture for example, or "crumple", similar to "wrinkle".... Just
go and ask for "textured paint", it seems to be the magic words to
obtain what we call "wrinkle" paint. If details on the kind of texture
are asked, talk about the black wrinkled paint used on the dashboard of
the MG British car of the sixties, it's just the kind of texture that
we, boatanchors restorers are seeking.

To be exhaustive, every method Iv' found to "wrinkle" standard oil-based
paints in the last forty years were at least very disapointing if not
very dangerous, involving the use of the kitchen oven to cook the
infortunate piece of steel (this one always giving a superb, instantly
peelable finish) or some esoteric, moonlight and spiders based techniques.

If applied with an air brush you must use a bigger nozzle than you're
used to because this kind of paint is quite thick.

Good luck!

Regards,

Thierry
