[Hallicrafters] SR-2000/400/SX117 paint

First a merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season to all.  
    I have been reading the entries and archived correspondence regarding the paint finish as applied to the SR-2000, 400, SX-117 ..... and believe that the Hal finish is something different than a wrinkle finish.  It looks to me to be a satin base with a random splatter of gloss for the raised stuff.  I have tried to paint over an original good finish with an exact copy of the base satin finish and the result is --------------- a grey prickly pear.  The cabinet needs the satin base and gloss splatter to simulate the original finish.  Was there a secret shop where they kept an old guy locked up with the secret and then dispatched him when all the painting was finished?  I am now humbly looking to the paint wizards for the process or has anyone been truly successful at replicating the original finish?  Kindest regards Jim K9AXN
