The 8072, which is the same tube without any cooling
fins, has an even less plate dissipation. However, in
the Motorola 450 MHz base stations and repeaters the
plate assembly was such that it provided a "serious"
heat dissipation network and the tube could easily
have been run at 8122 ratings. But, since the
transmitters were designed for 100% duty cycle
Motorola ran them very conservatively.

The 8121 and the 8122 do have the same base and some
characteristics. The primary difference is the plate
dissipation. The 8122 is more robust and a pair will
deliver 1000 watts CW ie the SR-2000.

Plate dissipation 8122 = 400w 8121 = 150w
