You're correct, I was getting my radios and speakers mixed up. Both of my 
"big magnet" PM-23's have painted grilles and the earlier one has a chrome 
plated brass "h" on the lower left.

BTW, that earlier one came with an SX-24, both of which were purchased new 
together by the elderly chap I got them from. I had to buy the radio to get 
the speaker for free! Ive been reading different stories about which radio 
got which speaker and contrary to some published info I believe that any 
speaker that was in dealer stock at the time could be purchased with any 
radio or seperately.
