Urban myth!
The Motorola numbered 8643 tubes have exactly the same
pin out as the regular 8643 tubes which is the same as
the 5894. Over the 9 years that I owned the Motorola
reconditioned equipment center for the south-central
United States (1970 until Motorola went out of that
"end" of the business in 1979) I saw literally
thousands of Motorola numbered 8643 tubes.
The only thing was that they were "supposedly" culled
for the ones that would work better in the 450 MHz
equipment and those had a different part number.
However, my technicians never found any difference!
All of the 8643 tubes that we tried in the 450 MHz
equipment worked just as well as the others.
Most of the Motorola 8643 tubes were made by Amperex.

I remember a Motorola Tech telling me that the house
branded 8643 had something done so that it couldnt
swap with a non Moto branded tube. A pin swap maybe?
Urban myth? They certainly had enough clout to do it.
