[Hallicrafters] 5894 Tube for the HA-6 Transverter

I had an Eldico SSB-100 (turns out it was a 100A) that I bought from Edwards
Electronics (W5KFT) in early 1965. I had two 5894's that I found at a local
hamfest but when the Eldico arrived it had a different looking tube in the
final. Turns out it was a 6894 as described by others in recent messages.
I swapped out tubes to check mine and found almost no difference.

I talked with Don Merten, K2AAA then living in Florida and was told that
some of the SSB-100A's and the later SSB-100F's were shipped with 6894's as
required by United Technologies on a contract. I read the number marked on
the tube in some type of marker and Don told me I had the original tube.
Only thing I disliked about the SSB-100A was the tube was mounted
horizontally but guess the 5894 series is a hearty tube as most Eldico
owners had good luck with them and no element sag.

I sold the SSB-100A to a fellow in 1972 and he demanded I replace the tube
with what was on the schematic so I shipped him a 5894 and he returned the
6894. Merten would have laughed at that!

I sold both to a fellow who had the HA-6 transverter and he told me the HA-6
put out at least 15 more watts with the 6894.
