Jim,

I assume you mean an "audible" tick, or click - that you can hear. (Not a 
sound heard in the transmitted signal).

Take as much cabinetry off as you can  without causing it to cease, and 
fire the thing up IN THE DARK. Then watch for little sparks.

You may have a more or less regular spark or high voltage arc of small size 
some where.

If you find it, the cure may well be
  - CLEAN, clean, clean. Remove dust, oil, dirt, and the rest.
  - A bit of Corona Dope. General Cement still makes it in red and black.
