Find some one who knows how to "hot wire" cut glass.  Shorten the chimney 
and then "fire polish" the sharp edge. It's not that difficult to do, but 
it's not all that difficult to break one either <:-)) Which is why I suggest 
finding some one who has done it before, or find something to practice on 
first.
