You are right that most signal generators do not cover the lower
frequencies.  Even Heath and Eico et al usually made signal generators that
started at 150 or 200 kcs.

Yes, if you can put together one that uses on of the new circuits (maybe
hooked into the PC) that would be great.  The two alternatives are one of
the function generators or an old surplus URM-25D (Fair Radio might still
have them).  I got one for $75 in fair condition with some probes from a ham
in South Carolina.  The URM-25D can be used to align those low frequency IFs
in the SX-100, HQ-170, and NC-300/303.
