The sizzling sound from my SX-42 heralded its sad demise, and now I am
looking for a replacement :-(
If anybody has a spare they'd like to sell, please let me know.
In the meantime, I have identified a potential possible replacement in
my spares box: an
HP transformer of the same size, but quite a bit heavier, which came out
of a piece of test equipment
that used a 5U4GB rectifier tube (so it has the right filament tap for
that) and a bunch of
6.3V filament tubes: the transformer has three taps shared among those.
However, I have no spec. sheet for the transformer (HP # 9100-0082, made
by Paeco # 4515),
so it is hard to check compatibility. But I do have the schematic in
which it was used. In particular
I think the HV winding is too high as the HP equipment used a B+ of
440VDC. Could I just use
a dropping resistor? Since the Hallicrafters transformer uses a single
tap for the filaments and lamps,
and the HP equipment used three taps ... one powering 5 filaments, and
the other two powering
3 filaments each ... would I need to parallel up the HP's filament taps
to avoid overloading a
single tap (would this work)?
Can anyone point me to a resource where I could look up the specs of
this transformer? A Google
search turned up nothing useful.
Thanks!
Julian
