To ship heavy radios, SX-62 etc., I go to a local storage place, one of
those places where they rent storage space by the month. . They have a
very heavy duty box made to pack TVs. It has pleanty of width and depth
for around 6 inches of packing (around a SX-612 size radio). The height
is excessive, I cut it down to the desired height. They are like triple
the strength of the boxes found at Wall Mart or Fed-Ex Kinkos. The cost
is around $15.00. Which I do not think is excessive to ship a radio that
I want to arrive in one piece.
Hope this helps.
Best,
