[Hallicrafters] SX-62 Tuning Slack

I don't know if that radio has a spring on the end of the dial string
to keep tension or not. If it does have the spring and if the shaft is
binding then when you reverse directions you could get some stretching
of the spring and then drawing back together when you reverse again.
Check the shafts of the dial mechanism to be sure they are not
binding. Maybe a little drop of oil on each spindle. Be careful not
to get oil on any shaft that has the string wrapped around more than
once to get the friction to move the dial.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] SX-62 Tuning Slack

I had to restring the tuning on an SX-62, and I followed the stringing
diagram carefully: it's not a complicated layout. I used
fishing line, which I've used with success in other receivers.
However, I am not at all satisfied with the way the tuning operates:
there is "play" in the knob ... so that if you turn the knob slightly
past a station, then going back takes more turn than it
should. It makes using the receiver frustrating, to say the least. I
don't know whether to blame my restringing, or whether to blame
the bearing of the tuning knob's shaft, which has some
backward/forward slack.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Thanks!
Julian
