Scott,

We do our best to punch a hole an dkeep it open but it is a constant battle.
I too do not object to contesting, in the proper sense of the term, but it
seems to degrade rapidly from an event into total devestation of the entire
band. No manners, no consideration for other stations - fellow contesters,
Net in operation or individual QSO's. Anything to get that contact. In my
opinion, it is Ham Radio at its absolute worst. However, it does not have to
be like that! But to change the conduct it will take some rulings and
enforcement of said rulings, the former is not apt to happen and the latter
is not going to happen as there is not enough funding as it is.

I use three antenna systems and run just under the legal limit at 1.4 Kw I
use every function or feature I can to increase adjacent frequency
rejection, minimize the splatter etc. But when a station running a Kw parks
25 Hz up or down from me, hearing is a thing of the past!

I have suggested an alternative plan to the ARRL twice, it got nowhere.
There are solutions, but nobody will even give them an ear. Got to keep
those subscriptions coming in, so those big buck advertisers will spend
money for more frequent and larger ads. So money talks and nobody at the
ARRL cares about anything else nowadays.

It was very disquieting to me when I heard that American Hams have the worst
on the air courtesy, least respect for and adherence to the rules and
terrible mannors. This from overseas Hams, as that is how they view we
American Hams. Listening to the conduct during contests, all I can think of
is those days when Citizens Band went down the sewer and turned into the
incredible cesspool of filth it became.

There are those who do not want any enforcement of rules, as they believe
that violates their Civil Rights, First Amendment rights and so forth. There
must be some structure in place and all who have a license must adhere to
it, whether they agree with it in totality or not. It is quite obvious that
without any enforcement what will happen, Citizens Band! If Hams would
follow the rules that already exist, then the problems of contesting would
no longer be problems. There is NO simple or quick solution. Until the ARRL,
who only represents about a fourth of all licensed Hams in the USA, is
willing to tackle the issue, there will be no resolution.

It is a pity that humans can not control themselves, maybe the animals
should have us in those cages!
