It is with the greatest sorrow that I must inform you that one of the truly
great Hams, vintage radio technicians and a dear friend, K0TNP, Donald
Power, passed away on June 1st. I received the news this evening by
telephone from Don's widow, Mary.
Don had been ill for about ten years with a very painful and crippling form
of Arthritis. The medications they gave him weakened his immune system to
the point that he could catch many common ailments that his body would have
normally fought off. Mary told me that Don had stopped the medication, the
doctors tried some other new procedure, but it left him very short of
breath. He went to bed the evening of May 31st and passed away during his
sleep.
Don was one of the most kind, considerate, helpful and brilliant men I have
had the pleasure of knowing. I met him several years ago while he was in
Michigan visiting his son who lives in Bay City. We spent an afternoon
together, here at my home. I shall treasure that memory.
Don was loved by all who knew him, and rightfully so. Ham Radio lost one of
its truly great men on June 1, 2006.

I am not sure if don even owned a modern rig. I know that he had over twenty
operational vintage stations set up. He called them "his children". He
faithfully rotated one after another into one of his several operating
positions to "exercise them", as he laughingly called it. Don? I miss you
buddy! Thanks for touching my life, I am a better person for it.
I know that many of you knew Don and you too will miss his ever cheery voice
from
southwestern Texas. Thanks for everything Don, wherever you are my friend,
may our paths croos again.
With deepest sympathy to Mary and family -
