I had better luck with an RBL receiver I bought at an antique radio club 
meet: The seller said he'd had it running and had heard a just couple of 
stations on it.

I found two or three tubes completely dead (6SK7's and the like).  Seems 
like it would take a VERY strong station to get through them.  Maybe he 
lived near WTOP or some thing!

Anyway, it did play with new tubes installed.
