[Hallicrafters] SX99

I bought a very cllean SX 99 at the Shelby, N.c.
Hamfest last year and recently got a chance to look
inside it. Believe it or not ALL of the tubes in the
SX 99 are HALLICRAFTERS except one and that one is a
GE.

The two 6SG7 tubes check weak as well as the 6SC7. The
S meter was damaged with the needle reading about S7
when the receiver was turned on and when OFF.

Eldad repaired the meter for me and I really
appreciate him. he provides a valuable service to
those of us with many boatanchors.

I found the 6SK7 and 6SC7 reversed with each in the
other's socket. I am not sure if plugging the tubes in
the incorrect sockets would have damaged the meter,
but it was that way when I purchased it. 

I guess this is par for the course because I have
purchased gear built from kits 25 years ago with
wiring errors and no previous owner had corrected the
error.

My S 85 is as clean as the SX 99, so I will have a
nice pair on the shelf if I get the bugs out of the SX
