Wow! Thanks Dave ... in that case I'm glad I didn't discard it! I really
thought it was a nest :-)
The odd thing is, it wasn't actually around the crystal itself, it was
positioned just below the crystal oscillator tube (which, unlike
the other tubes, has a ceramic socket).
Is it a good idea to replace it with a more modern material?
