Keep an eye on the ads in ER and other places. I got my SX-28A from
Gary Sarra down in CT from his ad in ER. There are still plenty of
folks selling gear at more typical prices than online auction.
As for drifting, I can believe it simply because I seldom take my 28A
off AM. It does seem to straighten out after it's been on a while, but
I can really notice the drift on AM broadcast for the first half hour
or so.
I've got a 210 SX awaiting restoration. I listened to it for a while
(after figuring out that lovely [*cough*] power supply cord/mess) and
it sounded as good as the SX-28A. It's just nowhere near as 'pretty',
which is probably why you can still get them for next-to-nothing.
Looking forward to eventually getting it online.
If nothing else, it's an excu...erm....reason to have another radio.
