Mark,
This is just a guess, and
tracing out the circuit of the extra switch and phono
jack will confirm
or deny this, but I suspect it is a phono input. I
have seen a
number of radios of this era with similar
modifications. The audio
stage of the SX-25 is supposed to be pretty nice
sounding (I have one I
am going to refurbish and another parts unit...the
parts unit has an
unmarked switch in the same location as yours), but I
haven't heard one
yet to be able to testify to this.
I'm
almost done with an SX-24, which is the little brother
to the
SX-25. Just need a little touching up of the paint on
the cabinet,
need to
make a bottom cover (I am now making a template for
this) and still
need
to find a pesky hum, noticable on bands 3, 3a and 4
when the BFO is
on. It's a pretty impressive set, considering it was
fairly modestly
priced. Since the SX-25 is basically an upgraded
version of the SX-24, I think after some
refurbishment you should get
a lot of enjoyment out of your receiver.
