Craig,
Is anyone thinking of marking these caps in some way so other techs would
know they are restuffed? Maybe a brand or something?
Some of us would see the wax paper caps and just " rip em' out and replace"
as a matter of course and to avoid the set boomeranging on you further down
the track. I gave up just replacing the odd one or two leaky Ducons in
Australian vintage sets after several sets bounced, so I replace all wax
papers as a matter of course. The same, incidentally, applies to video techs
working on Sony Handycams. They recap "the lot" as it seems that Sony (with
all their hype)does not make decent electrolytics. Have a look at this link
for your amusement: http://members.iinet.net.au/~vidcam/Recapping/1.html
Many years ago whilst working for a government building and maintenance
agency we had need to reclad all our asbestos cement transportable "site
sheds" with a non-asbestos product. Gee, we thought we were really smart.
Then halfway throough the program the painters ( finding themselves in in a
bit of a quiet spot) thought they would spruce up all the site sheds with a
fresh coat of paint.
Suddenly we could not tell the reclad sheds from the old ones. It was going
to cost lots of $$$ to test a sample from each shed and determine which ones
still contained asbestos!!
I don't know if you can determine what the moral of my story is, but if you
restuff the caps, maybe make a little branding iron that you can put in a
soldering iron and place a mark on them?
Regards
Peter May
