To clean the tube socket contacts, try using a small amount of De-Ox-It, by 
applying a small drop directly to each tube pin hole.  Then insert the tube and 
exercise it well. Pulling it completely out and reinserting will also help.  
If it is a fiber socket, it might ne better to apply the cleaner from the 
bottom, being careful to keep the fluid amount as small as possible.

Mechanical squeezing of the pins should be used only as a last resort, since 
that may distort the socket making proper contact even less likely and 
possibly necessitating complete replacement.
