Use the X1/Y2 ceramic disk capacitor @ .001uF/250VAC.  If you want to be
safe not sorry you will install a 3 wire grounded cord and two capacitors.
One from the hot to the neutral and one from neutral to the chassis.  If you
use large value capacitors, you can cause GFI outlets to trip.

X2?  In the boatanchors I've worked on, the bypass caps are line to
ground not across the line.  If I'm not mistaken, this calls for Y2,
not X2 caps.   I always put in new three-prong line cords so there is a
safety ground.

I use the value that was there.  My favorite Y2's are the Vishay
ceramics.  .01 is Mouser WYO103MCMCF0K, 1000 pf is Mouser
WYO102MCMBF0K.  They look like the usual ceramic disc caps except
shiny, bright blue.
