[Hallicrafters] HT-37 - Stuck Slugs

If you can, measure the inductance of the ones coming out. This will help
alot when you re-tune the radio.
Whatever you do, don't ding the coil form or the wire/ wire connections.
Some slugs just won't come out but a many can be loosened up until they
start moving. Don't use a plastic tuning tool to attempt recovery of the
slug, use a metal hex screwdrive or flat tip.
Remove coil assembly and soak it in penetrating oil overnight. Then try to
work the slug loose slowly. If it won't go and you have a good replacement
slug then destroy the old one piece by piece with a small screw driver until
the shaft is clear of all debris.
The worst one I have ever done was a Halli SX 101 rf coil that I had to
drill the slug out completely. Since I didn't have an exact replacement I
tuned the rig with a smaller diameter size slug on the end of a stick, then
poured hot wax into the coil form to immobilized it at the "sweet spot".
This work saved band 4 on the 101 and it's still working to this day.
Man I hate stuck slugs. See them all the time on the old WRL stuff.
