Did the package have to go through Dallas, Denver, or
St. Louis? A while back the U.S. Navy conducted an
"experiment" without telling the USPS that they were
conducting it. They sent thousands of items from
letter to packages through the mail from all over the
country.

It was discovered that if the particular item had to
go through Dallas, Denver, or St. Louis that is was
about 10 times more likely to be lost, delayed, or
damaged. If it had to go through two of those major
facilities then it was 10 X 10 or 100 times as likely
to be lost, delayed, or damaged.

The result was that the area designated by those three
facilities was called "the Bermuda Triangle of the
Post Office". I have to deal with the Dallas facility
with all of my mail. I can certainly see problems.

By the way, it still costs only 3 cents to mail a
letter. The rest is storage fees!
