Well, Bill may have the ultimate S-38E collection. I'm glad he was able
to repair the damage.

His experience with UPS is why I prefer to use the oft-maligned US
Postal Service (or FedEx, though they've misplaced two of my shipments
for several days). I recently shipped an SX-62 I restored to a customer
via UPS at the customer's insistence. I double-boxed the radio, with
about five inches of bubble wrap padding in each box, marked it FRAGILE
on every box surface and indicated THIS SIDE UP with a huge arrow on
each appropriate facet. Though delivered on time, my customer informs
me that the shipment was left on his porch upside down with the outer
(heavy-duty, thick-walled) box "smashed to smithereens". Fortunately
the radio survived with a few scratches (after I repainted it), but only
because its chassis and cabinet construction resemble the bodywork of a
'54 Buick. I stopped using UPS some time ago because of several similar
incidents.

I have never had such carelessness demonstrated by the Postal Service or
FedEx.

73,

Craig
