Many years ago, we made "Gimmick" capacitors from short pieces of solid #14 
bare wire and a coffee stirrer from "Micky D's".  We found that they were 
about 1 mmf, oops, shoin my age again, 1 pf per inch.  We spread the leads 
at right angles after we found the right capacity.  Worked like a charm
