A couple of weeks ago I posted scans of the Sams Photofact parts list
and schematic for the Hallicrafters SX-42 on my website with a promise
to substitute an "upgraded" version.

Well, the new scan is now available at
www.aerialacts.com/SAMS_SX42_hires.pdf . It's a high-resolution scan of
the full Sams Photofact volume -- all 12 pages. I scanned this PDF
document from an original Sams publication, not a reproduction, and
enhanced it to compensate for the age-discolored paper and blemishes in
the original. The result is as good as the original when new.

That said, I must warn you that this is a huge file -- almost 80 MB.
This was necessitated by the very high scan resolution needed to capture
the detail in the original document and allow the resulting PDF to be
viewed at high magnifications with no loss of clarity. The schematic,
for instance, can now be enlarged (and printed) at 400-percent or more
with the image still sharp.

As always, if you'd like to avoid the very long download time, I will be
happy to send you a high quality hard copy of the file, or provide it on
CD. Just send me your address and I'll ship it to you in a day or two.

I plan to finish my SX-42 alignment and cabinet refnishing this weekend.
The flu and the press of business kept me away for more than a week.

The only problem with the receiver at this point is the failure of the
meter to respond in FM mode. It "zeroes" near the appropriate mark, but
does not move when tuning a signal. The meter acts normally in AM mode.
The meter had been working okay until I changed resistors on the
function switch, so I may have missed a connection or shorted a terminal
with a clipped-off lead or solder splash. I'll check it out once I get
back into the radio. Otherwise, I must say, the old girl looks and
sounds beautiful now. I'm very happy with this restoration -- thanks to
the help and encouragement of many of you.

73,

Craig
