Thanks to all for the replies on my timer question.
Chuck & Glen - I checked my timers here and one has a wattage rating for 
resistive and inductive loads while the other says nothing. I'll use the 
first one and "retire" the second. And of course the dimmer will only be 
used on incandescent bulbs.
I'll do a little experimenting to see if I can find a "hashless" energy 
saving bulb. Hope the neighbors don't go overboard and start installing 
these bulbs - it's bad enough that they have computers on most of the time.
