[Hallicrafters] Receivers and such

When I was a kid, I lived in KC. Burstein-Applebee (B-A) was there, and my
friend Biff (his real name, and not at all like the cliche') and I would
ride the bus downtown, and go drool at the receivers there. The S-38D was
my particular fancy, as I knew even then, that a Hammarlund Super Pro was
for rich guys... and I wasn't one a' dem. My friend Kirk put it well: The
Hallicrafters S-38D was immediately recognizable by the smallest boy, and
represented "The Height of Affordable Technology" in 1956, for a kid of 12
years. Like my Daisy Red Ryder BB gun, I couldn't ever seem to save up the
money for one back then, but have one now... AND an S-38D. It sits next to
it's Big Brother SX-62A.

Oh, and I laughed embarrassingly loud at Ken's (K4XL) description of that
which captured our imagination, AFTER radios. That resulted in "The Look"
from the wife... HI HI HI
