FW: [Hallicrafters] Why I'm a Hallicrafters Guy

One of my best memories from when I was a kid (before I got my novice
ticket) was my S-40B and the night Sonny Liston fought Floyd Patterson
for the heavyweight title. My Dad wanted to listen to the fight on the
radio. We got in my bedroom plenty early so I could get it tuned in. My
Dad sat on the bed and I was in my chair at the desk where the S-40B was
located. I had a bottle of Coke and my Dad had his Viceroys (cigarette
brand). I had finished the coke and since I had no ash trays, my Dad had
dropped a finished Viceroy (unbeknownst to me) in my Coke bottle. About
the time Liston knocked out Patterson (first round if I remember
correctly); I grabbed that Coke bottle to drain the dregs. I'll never
forget the taste of about a teaspoon of Coke mixed with the butt and
ashes of a Viceroy. I've been a Hallicrafters Guy ever since.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Why I'm a Hallicrafters Guy

Because when I was little, my dad used to let me stay up on Saturday
night and listen to "Judy Canova" on his S-40A.

I never wanted anything else, though I bought a Ranger when I wasn't
finding the Hallicrafters I wanted.

As to the "not the best engineered", neither are Fords, but even though
I haven't had a Ford since about '67, I'll always be a Ford guy in my
heart. That's the way I was raised.

That said, affordability may have something to do with the fact that I
don't have any Collins or a Johnson 500.
