I might get shot for saying this but I'm not really a Hallicrafters guy, but
I still have a soft spot for them. My first shortwave set which I attempted
to use as my first Novice reciever was a old S-20R. I have fond memories of
working a station and if someone in the living room walked across the floor
the signal would sorta bounce off freq. hi hi I'll never forget that radio.
Soon I picked up a lil SX-140 reciever and I thought it was great. I had a
penpal friend in Calif who had a SX-101 something or other, then a little
later met a fellow Novice who had a S-38B. Hey there were only 6 hams in my
town, that was something. So fast forward from 1967 to present and under
the workbench is a S-38B that does not work, on the main bench is a S-53A
that is in really good shape. Below that is the SX-140/ HT-40 combo. So
guess I'm a Hallicrafters liker. hi
