The burr under my saddle blanket comes from the guys who knock on the door of
an SK before he is even buried offering to take his gear off the widow's
hands for pennies on the dollar and then promptly resells it for a huge profit.
It is evidently easy to do since most survivors are quite vulnerable at this
point and are glad to have the burdon of getting rid of a shack full or gear
removed from their shoulders.
You may have seem my estate sale postings on some of the reflectors recently.
This same thing happened to the widow of a fellow I knew casually through
work. The "vulture" who knocked on her door got the cream of the crop for
pennies, but what he left has turned out to be a gold mine for the estate. It has
cost me some personal funds and a lot of time to do this, but the pleasure is
coming from seeing what I can get for this gear, some of it which turned out to
be extremely rare. I have all the payments going directly to the estate so it
is totally on the up and up. The estate sends me the money for shipping which
comes from the payment made for the gear which includes the shipping charge.
That charge is the actual Fed Ex charge, no added packing or handling.
Everyone should try this, it is fun and satisfying. I must admit that if I do
it again, and I probably will, I will have to add a small charge for my gas
and packing supplies. I use recycled boxes and packing materials but no one is
giving away Scotch shipping tape and the estate is about 60 miles from here
and gas is no longer free.
