[Hallicrafters] Dummy antenna for S40 alignment

I agree with Ed. I painstakingly built an "official" dummy load to
service a buddy's SX-28 a few years ago and the resulting alignment
caused a mismatch between the receiver input and "modern" 50 ohm
antennas. Re-tweaking the receiver straight from the signal generator
yielded noticeably better reception. Theoretically, perhaps, the best
thing to do would be to build the dummy load, align the receiver "by the
book", and then feed it with an antique style 300 ohm (or whatever)
antenna or run a 50-75 ohm antenna through a 6:1 matching transformer.
I was actually toying with the idea of building an old style open feeder
line doublet, per Army instructions, for my Hammarlund SP-600 (which has
a 100 ohm input impedance) and seeing if it would make any discernable
difference. Does anyone feed their antique receiver with an antique
resonant antenna? If so, how's it work?
