Well.. I've used a 40 meter folded dipole, constructed with 300 ohm
twinlead, it works great on 40, but only 40. I had a horizontal full
wave loop up for 160 meters at one time (height about 30 feet) and it
was fed with open wire line. Worked fine on most all bands for
receiving as well as transmitting. The goal was a good high angle
signal for short-hop 160 and 80 meter operations. I may put this back
up for the winter season, it was a lower noise receiving antenna than my
dipoles or long wires for 160 and 80.

Regarding receiver input matching, I have one Halli, the S-76, that is
VERY sensitive to antenna impedance. It has no antenna trimmer, which
may be part of the problem. It was fairly dead on several ranges, even
though aligned by the book, until I put a tuner in line between it an
the antenna switch.
