[Hallicrafters] Grounding A Vertical Antenna

I live in Clearwater, Florida and have a yard full of Live Oak trees. The
root system of Live Oaks is very shallow and they have many roots even at
the ground surface level. Trying to bury radials in my yard is an almost
impossible job. I have a Butternut HF6V. I don't want to mount it on a
pole as that requires radials also and it attracts attention that I really
don't want.

Has anyone had any experience with the MFJ Ground-Coupled Portable Antenna
Base in place of buried radials for a vertical antenna? Does it work as
well as they claim? Does it work at all?
