I totally agree with you. The S-38 series was known to teach young SWL's
in the 50's what electrical shock feels like. I know because I got my 1st
receiver, an S-38E, in 1958 and learned why you don't put your tongue on
the radio.
Don't ask, it was one of those things you just have to do as a 10 year
old........
A 3 wire cord with the ground to the case should do. The case is suppose
to be isolated from the radio chassis, but who knows if the integrity of
the assembly is still intact.
