You really need to activate a low voltage (like 12
volts DC) relay with your exciter.  Then use the relay
contacts to activate the linear.  This will insure
that you do not damage the switching arrangement in
your exciter from higher voltage or current than the
exciter is able to handle.

Suitable relays are available from Radio Shack for
under $10.
