Hi Skip....
It's REALLY not that bad once you make up your mind to do it. I started out
just doing one and decided to do another, then it was just one more and
they're all done! I also did the BFO can since I could not get that to work
either.
Be sure to make up some sketches of the under chassis wiring as well as the
internal wiring of the cans and check it against your schematics. The very
last can I did I left it to memory and it took two days of trial and error
to sort that one out! Do one at a time and check it out as you go. Touch up
your IF's and re-align the whole thing once you are through.
It was really worth the effort and I'm glad now that I did it! - Getting
started was the problem. I don't believe you could do the job without
removing the can from the chassis. The coil wiring is very deliacte and
without being able to position it to work on, I think the chance of damage
is great.
Keep us posted on your progress and good luck....

Subject: SX-42 IF cans

Hi Chuck,
I guess I already know the answer - but - in replacing the
capacitors in the IF cans of the SX-42 is it necessary to remove the
whole can OR can the cover be removed and the capacitors be replaced
with the rest in place? (I suspect you are going to say "remove the
complete can".) I'm having trouble aligning at 1500 kc on band 1.
Thanks in advance.
