Hi All,

This brings up several questions. If you are upgrading why do you have to
format the drive?
If you are using Windows, and IE 6 with OE tells me you are, you can
usually just upgrade the operating system.

You can pick up some pretty good sized hard drives for around $40 to $60.
Recently I've seen 40 Gig HDs for about $60.
All the machines here have two HDs except one and it has 4.
With the second HD you just backup to it.

As Glen mentioned you can save to floppies, or CDs. You can also "back up"
to either. In the case of backing up files the system will save large files
across multiple disks be they floppies, or CDs, or even DVDs if you have a
burner. Currently (if you hunt around) the cost of backing up to a DVD is
about the same as using CDs even though the cost per DVD disk is a bit more,
CDs have more standardization though.

You would back up the entire directory for mail...which will contain all the
mail folders in addition to the inbox, outbox, deleted items...etc.
It should be located in Identities/(big long identity
number)/Microsoft/Outlook Express/
However it depends on how much mail you have accumulated. Mine has over 87
Megs, which I didn't know before...So thank you for causing me to dig into
the directory and finding the files. Without resorting to a calculator that
sounds like about 65 floppy disks, or 10% of one CD, just for mail.

I also backup favorites, and "My Documents", spread sheets, database
tables.word documents...
I don't use the standard "My Documents" as that can end up being over
written if you do a full install and I don't like the system messing with my
data files. You may find several favorites folders, but the one you most
likely want has a star in front of it.

IF you have a second computer available you can back up to it using a serial
cable although it's a lot easier on a network.

Good Luck,
