[Hallicrafters] HT-44 carrier balance

Has anyone seen a problem with severe carrier unbalance in
the Halli HT-44 ?  I'll be transmitting fine and all of a 
sudden the carrier goes to over 50 watts.  Unkey and key up
and it may or may not have a carrier again.  It is proven
it's carrier and not PA spurious.  When at full carrier
the chassis is very microphonic and tapping any tube causes
lots of microphonic noise in a nearby receiver.  I've changed
all the tubes except the 6DQ5's.  mic gain and RF level
pots have no affect.  When the carrier is there the BAL
pots have little effect, when the carrier is not present the
BAL pots null perfectly.  HELP !
