I'm glad this was raised.

Quite honestly I almost always replied to the sender unless I thought it was
of group interest. I "thought" I had seen messages scolding people for
replying to the list, hence my practice of not doing so.

There are times when an individual reply is best, when offering parts for
sale is one thing I can think of especially when its a one of a kind. It's
also possible that even that type of reply is appropriate for group
distribution.

My vote, if I have one, is to retain the choice and continue to inform the
participants of best practices  for this list.
