[Hallicrafters] SX-62

Radio Shack sells a small line transformer that's intended for 70v PA
systems, but is regularly used by many of us as an impedance matching
transformer. It's Catalog Number 32-1031 and sells for $6.99. The
primary has 5 and 10 watt taps -- use the 10 watt to the 500 ohm output
of the SX-62. Secondary taps are 4, 8 and 16 ohms. Use the 4 ohm tap
for your R48 speaker. These are sold in the RS stores, but may be found
closer to the speakers than the rest of the transformers. They're on a
blister pack.

I've used these with a variety of 500 and 600 ohm radios with good
results. Some might say use a better quality unit, especially
considering the push-pull 6V6 pair. AES (Antique Electronic Supply)
sells a 600 ohm Hammond transformer for about $20. I haven't tried those
and some say there is no discernable difference.

Don't hook that 3.8 ohm speaker across the 500 ohm output. Also, check
to make sure that a previous owner didn't swap out the 600 ohm
transformer for a low impedance one -- or install another matching
transformer between the output transformer and the 500 ohm output
terminals. I've seen both situations and then some.

Hope this helps.

Barry
