[Hallicrafters] Where to find the SX 28 and other boat anchor radios in 1944

Will Enestvedt was kind enough to send me a copy of his recently
acquired
Army Air Forces Manual 100 -1 on the AAF Radio Squadrons Mobile which
was dated
May 1944.  In 1944 the document was "Restricted"

I have gone through it in detail and have summarized the contents below.
In short, the unit provided radio direction finding and radio intercept
services for a numbered Combat Air Force and was one of many
intelligence collection agencies.

SECTION I
Organization, General

T/O & E 1-1027 Organization Chart shows the following sections:
Headquarters Section
Supply Section
Mess Section
Intelligence Evaluation Section
Analysis Section
Communications Section
CW Intercept Section
3 Voice Intercept Sections

Mess through Voice Intercept sections could be augmented by additional
teams

Squadron composed of 23 officers and 292 enlisted men.
Basis of allocation was one per combat Air Force
ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTIONS

Para. 9 to 28
 Function of the squadron was to provide installation, operation and
maintenance of radio
intercept and direction finding stations, cryptanalysis, intelligence
evaluation and other
associated and necessary activities.

Hq., Mess, supply, and transportation sections- same as other units.
Communications: install, operate and maintain wire communications in the
headquarters
and to the Squadron Detachments.
Analysis: Breaks down codes and ciphers, sends texts of high priority
messages to the
Intelligence evaluation sections.
CW Intercept:  built around two Radio Intercept Centrals TC 9. Also
provides targets to
the DF operators.
Direction Finding: built around two Radio Direction Finding Central TC 8
units, three
Adcock-type direction finders and one radio set SCR 399.
Intelligence Evaluation: pieces together information from RDF and
intercept sections,
provides the information to Air Force A-2 and Flight Operations.
Voice intercept: Similar to the DF Team, provide immediate tactical
information.
Para 21. to 28 covers various teams, DF Team,Intel Team,Mess Team,Radio
comm team,
Teletypewriter team, Traffic Center team, Voice intercept team.
