Did I miss something....What car does not want more that 2 watts on 2 meters?
I do not understand hat the problem is, unless this one of the hybrids that
the maker is still not sure what will cause it to fail. Sounds like a
strange problem that is tied to one single model...Please tell us what type
car this is.

The J-pole uses an ungrounded feed so there is no need to tie it to anything; you can do the installation with nothing grounded beyond the rig itself. That will go a long way toward decoupling the car from the RF. As a bonus the J-Pole is a dynamite antenna for mobile use, outperforming any 5/8 wave I have seen. I know the books claim a 5/8 has a bit more gain toward the horizon but that is only true with a perfect ground plane. The reality is that no car roof is even close to a perfect ground plane. The J-Pole just doesn't care about that and you can mount it as high as practical to maximize gain. A fringe benefit is that picket fencing is much reduced with the J-Pole in mobile service. Can you tell I love it?
