Joe,

Here is a more serious reply.  Consider using a J-Pole antenna.  The 
J-pole uses an ungrounded feed so there is no need to tie it to 
anything; you can do the installation with nothing grounded beyond the 
rig itself.  That will go a long way toward decoupling the car from the 
RF.  As a bonus the J-Pole is a dynamite antenna for mobile use, 
outperforming any 5/8 wave I have seen.  I know the books claim a 5/8 
has a bit more gain toward the horizon but that is only true with a 
perfect ground plane.  The reality is that no car roof is even close to 
a perfect ground plane.  The J-Pole just doesn't care about that and you 
can mount it as high as practical to maximize gain.  A fringe benefit is 
that picket fencing is much reduced with the J-Pole in mobile service.
