William, you listed some very valid shipping ideas. I would have personally gone with styrofoam sheeting completely surrounding all six sides, suspended in peanuts, box taped well, then packed again in another bigger box with lots of peanuts all around. In other words a two inch buffer zone around the already packed radio. If a 76 pound radio (SX-28) is dropped or thrown, there has to be sufficient packaging to withstand the actual impact. I have shipped approximately 100 plus items in regards to eBay and other personal transactions. I always ship things this way and I've never ever had any trouble. Of course, that was via USPS Priority Mail, which I cannot praise enough. Unfortunately, USPS does not ship anything over 70 pounds (can't say I blame them). They seem to have a blatant disregard for the wellbeing of a parcel. As I mentioned in the earlier thread, I shipped a very rare and very expensive Marshall Anniversary amplifier via UPS some years back. This amp had gold plated everything, only 800 made and only 400 shipped to North America. I sold the actual amp to a music dealer in California who specifically requested FedEx. He received his package without a scratch on the cardboard packing. The fellow that bought the speaker cabinet with the 4 10inch speakers wanted it shipped UPS. He received his speaker cabinet "smashed". This cabinet is made out of very solid material, has to be, considering the way rock and roll stuff is moved from show to show. Then, to top it off, UPS took the speaker cabinet from him to ship to their Claims office on Jupiter and somewhere past Mars they lost it and could not find it until approx. two months later. Eventually he settled with them for cash plus what was left of the cabinet. If UPS wants my radio to hold and examine for an indefinite period of time I'm going to tell them to "stuff it". I can just see them twisting the chassis this time, then getting a phone call telling me they have lost it. Well, I'm trying very hard "not to lose it". I'm going to think twice before I ever buy another heavy radio that has to be shipped a long distance, just tooooo much heartache. I'm not blaming the fellow that I purchased the set from, he tried his very best to accomodate me with all of my questions etc and he really did go out of his way to get shipping quotes etc. Perhaps he and I package differently. I would think that his packaging has been fine for him up to this point. Maybe it's an eye opener for all of us, to really examine the shipping industry, pick a reliable shipper, ie: FedEx, USPS, etc. Well, supper is ready, not really sure that I will eat much. Try to have a nice day!!!! Thanks, Mike
