If you are settling for a damage claim NEVER let UPS take the item...
they do not have to take it to complete the claims process. I've arranged
two large items (an Eldico SSB100M and a Clegg Zeus modulator) that UPS
carelessly wrecked be inspected on my property. They may want to take
it, but they WILL come look at it at your property if you insist.
The inspection consists (as far as I can tell) of just determining
that indeed the item is damaged....nothing beyond that.
You can get a real human to talk to you if you insist on getting the
phone number of a claims agent. You can then call that person individually
and ask for progress on your claim.
UPS has the most careless parcel handlers in the world, but I've made
'em pay MY repair estimates each time they've damaged something AND I've
gotten to keep the item.
