[Hallicrafters] Shipping radio sets via UPS

Warning, never ship a vintage radio via UPS. I just purchased a SX-28A
from a fellow subscriber and had him ship it via UPS. I got it this
morning. Some hair-brained idiot at UPS tossed it.
Opened it up to find the cabinet totally destroyed and the binding posts
on the rear of the chassis for antennae, ground etc. all broken except
for one.

If the radio was not properly packed, no amout of care in handling can
over come poor packing. I have sent radios all over the USA and world,
most by UPS with out incident.

Best way is to fill the bottom of the box with a layer of peanuts and
then foam it. When foam has dried , wrap the radio in clear plastic, dry
cleaner bag or whatever and set it down on the bottom. Fill the sides
with foam, maybe some pellets to save on foam. Get it about half way
filled and let it dry. Put in a cardboard spacer around it and the
repeat the procedure on the rest of the sides and top.

Yes, it cost more and takes sellers time but how much time are you going
to spend looking for replacement parts for some of these vintage sets.
