[Hallicrafters] S-53 vs S-53A

Hi Tim -

Oh, you'll have fun with that little station!  For some odd reason, as a 
kid growing up in ham radio in the late 60's and 70's, I coveted the 
HT-18!  I think the reason I coveted it was because it was a commercial 
transmitter that I might have actually been able to afford at the ripe old 
age of 11!  I never did get one, but later in life, a friend lent me his 
for a turn, mated to an S-53A.  Having cut my teeth on a BC348Q (broad as a 
barn door) and a 6L6 cigar box special transmitter, I came to understand 
that such peanut whistle stations will test your operating skills!  What 
fun, though!

I don't have data for the S-53 at hand, but my recollection is that the IF 
frequency of the S-53 is high, and something goofy, while the S-53A had a 
455 kc IF.  Forgive me if my recollection is weak or incorrect.
